Match report
24th April 2010 Thorpe Arnold @ Home
With the first game of the season on us was nice to start @ home, even more so with the sun being out, for the start of a really exciting season for both 1st and 2nd teams.
The Ground looking in great shape with the covers being really well re-done by the maintenance team (Rich, Geoff, Pinky) & with Alec Hade & Richard bezzing round cutting the outfield, & work by H on the track things look spot on.
A quick warm up & team game, our faithful scorer Rosie & umpire Alan in place, Captain Steve Coulson wins the toss & bowls. Starting at the mill lane end Chris Conway starts well with the ball swinging late finds the outside edge but is dropped with a hard chance at gully, with Tom”Hoss” Cartwright looking like he belongs in the 1st team starting with 5 good over’s for 25 a top effort. On came Dave Haden asking if its swinging, Dave had by the looks of things not been watching for 11 over’s, but kept it on the spot takes a tidy 3 for 39 from the blaby road end off 14.1 over’s. Bowling display of the day came from Matt “I’m not bowling this year” Willett bowling top top areas also swinging well finishing with a good start with the ball 6 wickets for 26 off 11 over’s. Catches all round for Steve Couglin, Steve Shipley, Mark Johnston & behind the wood Ryan ”ice man” Lane who looked very impressive for the 1st game, Thorpe Arnold being bowled out for 111
Opening up for Enderby Ben Turner & John Willett, with both looking comfortable Ben being bowled though for 11 bringing son Matt Willett in, with both still there at the end getting to the target 112 with only 1 wicket down with 36 overs on the board.
24 points first up with John Willett finishing 49* Not Out & matt 39* Not Out
A good day at the office, with Mark “johno” Johnstone having the wear “LE BOCKSERZ” for the worst cricket trouser known to man Pro Wear Awful
