Enderby Cricket Club - Tour 2010

Enderby Cricket Club Tour 2010 – August Bank holiday weekend

This year tour destination was North Yorkshire – games in Bridlington and Bishopthorpe.

Nine heroes’s left on Saturday after games, three cars travelled to York where we stayed at York University at James College.  Two cars found their way without any trouble; third car had Rosie as navigator took a round trip round Selby few times before Geoff took over and then destination found.

Booked in and then beer time was in order.  At the first pub managed to order a couple of rounds and where then told last orders much aah’s but hey other places to be seen.  Younger generation carried on whilst older generation (Alan, Geoff and Rosie) decided no, so went back to College.  Guys returned back early Sunday morning.  Early start after breakfast to Bridlington for first game – some people looked greener than others “fish  bowls” had an effect.

Rest of the heroes drove up on Sunday Lurch had interesting trip after being pulled over by “men in blue”   Old Man, Neal and Mick Pos arrived on Sunday.  Whilst waiting for rest of the team more beers consumed in Bridlington and Matt Willett & JD now have acquired a taste for Pimms.

First game was against Bridlington Cricket Club – very windy, rainy conditions our inning interrupted four times, before a 30 over game was agreed.  Rosie finished off bottle of rose – which she did share with other scorer. Enderby’s  inning was not helped by some indifferent umpiring from the Bridlington man who contrived to give four LBW decisions which were closer to landing on the beach than being out  Bob, Neal, Chris and JD the unlucky victims.  Matt and Neal both posted useful scores for us to post a decent total.   JD not happy about bowling into wind, Lurch not happy with bowling generally. – bails kept being blown away.  Catches missed mainly by Mick Pos and Old Man found out that the ground was lower than he thought.  Beer had also taken its toll and we underperformed against a side on another day we might have beaten.

That evening after fish and chips, more beers and socializing well into the night by the younger members was to be had, and Luke returned for breakfast. Early start again as back to Bishopthorpe for second game – sunshine and generally we played better cricket and scored over 200. Don’t mention the run out. The Bowling was shared around and all but Lurch managed a victim, and we WON comfortably.  After a short time at the host’s pub, set off back to Leicester – very tired but content as another good tour completed with Old Man very happy and not out of pocket as no damage was done – must be first.

On the cricketing side good knocks from Bob Turner with 64 closely followed by Matt Willett on 63 and Neal Mackey on 56 and good bowling from Chris Conway, and Old Man who deceived them into thinking he was a spinner ,  but best bowling  performance was from Browse who bamboozled the Yorkshire County junior player  with his specialised bowling technique.

Tour Heroes:

Chris Conway, Luke Stevenson, Bob Turner, Matt Willett, Matt Short, John Daly, Dave Mackey, Neil Mackey, Andy Moore, Mick Postlewaite, Geoff Conway, Alan Johnson, Rosie Eramus, Richard Evans  and  Andrew Gregory (Browse).
