05 Oct 2008 : First Team opponents for 2009
As the season is now finished we can peruse the leagues and take a look at next years opponents.
The first team should be looking at promotion next year as a real possibility as yo yo clubs Grace Dieu and Market Bosworth join us from Division 3 and we say good bye to Rothley and good riddance to our favourite not!! team Thorpeweareupourselves Arnold.
We also say cherrio to Shepshed 2`s and Barrow 2`s.
Both Shepshed and TA came from Div 5 last year and Rothley from Div 3. Grace Dieu return to Div 4 after 2years in Div 3 and Market Bosworth after 1
Coming up from Div 5 are Ilston Abbey and Ashby Hastings seconds both teams having there first teams in the Prem.
So next year the first team will be playing
Market Bosworth 1 who we know we can beat
GraceDieu 1 who are recovering from losing many senior players and play many young players like ourselves
Bardon Hill 1Who we beat and had a good draw against
Mountsorell 1Who we beat at home and lost on the last ball last year
Kegworth 2 where its always tight
Sileby 2 We either win or lose
Stoughton 2 Batter them every time we play them
Ilston 2 An unknown coming from Div 5
Ashby Hastings 2 Again an unknown
Banks 2 It always rains at least at home we win away
Countesthorpe 2 Both games were lost on the last ball last year
With Sileby Stoughton Ashby and Ilston all having there first teams in the Prem Countesthorpe Kegworth and Banks in Div 1 ther should be some good competative cricket again next year.
But my opinion is if the first team play to there abilities all through the season then they will be challenging for the promotion places next year.
Extra News.Thorpe Arnold II have been deducted points for playing an elegible player it is rumoured Kegworth are the team to take their place if this is so.
Extra Extra Kegworth have gone up in TA`s place.

05 Oct 2008 : Second Team oppenents 2009
It will most likely be a young team again next year that represents Enderby in the basement league for 2009.
However, the experience of last year will be ever present and I am sure all players will be making sure it does not happen again and will be looking to challenge for a quick return to Div 6 for 2010.
Enderby scored more points than Cosby in 2007 when they finished bottom of Div 6 and it should be noted that they finished a comfortable 4th in Div 7, this last season ,so going by that, it could be a good season for the youngsters in 2009.
Another thing to note, is that fellow promotion team Mountsorrel ,along with ourselves in 2007 also return to Div 7,showing the rise in standard in Div.6

Billsdon relgated in 2007 from Div 6 finished 3rd in Div7 2008.
Cosby also relegated in 2007 finished 4th in 2008 .
Shepshed Messengers beaten twice in 2007 by us should pose few problems.
Rothley poor bowling let them down in 2008 all year.
Croft , pub team and play to enjoy but can produce on occasions.
Grace Dieu they are in a similar position to ourselves. In 2007 they were woeful ,but insider info says that many of that team have been asked to leave. to be replaced with up and coming youngsters.
Dunton Bassetts` Steve Dann continues to encourage the junior set up and lead the team.Sound familiar.?Loughborough Greenfields small ground that I can never find but cracking wicket and superfast outfield score less than 240 at your peril but they have no players of note
Loughborough Outwoods possibly the worst team I have ever played against!
and finaly
Melton Mowbrey who may or may not turn out a side and are the worst team I have played against !!!!!!make up Div 7.
Having played all these teams except Billsdon and Cosby in 2006 I know we have the beating of all of them if we play as we can It should be noted that Billsdon and Cosby were relegated to Div 7 in 2007 and finished 3rd and 4th so the signs are for a good season, as it was towards the end of 2008 the young players finally realising that they could compete in Div 6 ,even if the results didn`t always show it.
Regular practice to cut extras and more resiliance in the batting is the aim to get everyone off to a good start for 2009. This is ,hopefully, with the help of Kev Wardle the captain of Broomleys 2`s who has kindly offererd to help H at the nets and is bringing a bowling machine for us to use.
He also was the leading wicket taker in Div 4 with 55 wickets and his experience will only help our young bowlers to improve ther consistancy in line and length to reduce the run rate conceded.

Match Report

Both games were called off this weekend due to the glorious British summer.

04 Sep 2008 : Winning draw for first at Bardon Hill
Match Report

Bardon Hill vs Enderby

A good performance from the first saw them take a winning draw at Bardon Hill. Though still not firing on all cylinders, like last week its points that matter and a winning draw was good result. Again the batting let us down a little with couple of top order batsman getting starts but not being able to kick on and make a big score. The bowling was excellent again with very few extras and 'four' balls. The fielding was good with all catches being held and plenty of good stops.

Again ice lost the toss and Enderby were put in to bat on a grassy, slow wicket. Enderby opened with Dave Haden and Ben Turner. It was slow going to start with. Both of them being watchful and dave's cut shot often finding the fielder at cover. The innings was slow going on a difficult batting wicket. That was until Johno and conway came to the crease. Both of them hitting sixes and moving the score board along quickly for the last five overs. The 44th over going for 20 thanks to some good hitting from johno and a dubious bowling change by their captain. Enderby ended their innings 185-7

Conners and wiggy took the new ball for Enderby. The Bardon batsman struggle with the extra pace of conners while they couldn't play the swing of wiggy. Only one of their batsman look any good and managed to pass fifty for bardon. Johno and mike turner came on to bowl on a turning pitch and took the game further away from Bardon. Conners came back on at the end trying to bowl out Bardon with johno at the other. Bardon completed their overs 152-8.

26 Aug 2008 : Enderby 1st win against Mountsorrell
Enderby vs Mountsorrell

A very important win for the first on saturday. Though not at our best its points that matter at this time of the season. A man of the match performance from Johno, well supported by Dave Haden was crucial to the victory. It was a much better performance in the field this week compared to last week. We managed to hold on to our catches enabling us to win.

Ice lost the toss on a damp but drying wicket and as expected were asked to bat first. Enderby were soon in trouble with openers ice and ben turner soon back in the pavilion and the score 18-2. Enderby continued to lose wickets regularly. We were our own worst enemy getting out to lose shots. Rodders and weaver in particular showing their disappointment at the way they got out. Only Johno, 51 not out, and Haden, 39, were able to get to grip with conditions and make notable scores. A couple of little partnerships at the end between conway and johno then wiggy and conway took Enderby to 165-9. A score we felt to be 30 short of a competitive score.

Mountsorrell batted as we expected them to bat, try and hit anything full the boundary. Conners claim the early wicket of Brian, who bob will tell you he talked out! The mountsorrel batsman always find it easier with the ball coming on to the bat and were cruising to victory. Ice soon turned to the spin of johno and haden. Although haden struggled in his first couple of overs the pair of them soon started to get in a rhythm and their batsman soon began to struggle. Why they seem to continued to try and hit every ball out the ground is a mystery when single would have won it easily for them. They were made to pay on a turning pitch when its never easy to attack a spinner. Johno ended up with fantastic figures of 6-31 and haden bagged a couple of wickets.

This saturday against Bardon lets try and get all 3 departments right. Bowl, bat and field to the standards we know were capable of. Lets stuff Bardon good and proper!

25 Aug 2008 : 2nds lose at Moutsorrell
Match Report

Match Report V Mountsorrell 2nds

Once again the 2nd team put up a valient effort at the Memorial Ground Mountsorrel falling to a defeat by 6 wickets.

On a damp wicket `H` lost the toss and Enderby were inserted.
Poss and Earthworm opened for the second week on the trot and got us off to a reasonable start battling to 20 before Earth got a wide one to chase and was caught at second slip.Nav was next in and had added 15 to the total with Poss before he was bowled for a hard fought 4.
This brought ¬H¬ to the wicket and he immediately put his mark on the game with a four through extra cover. He and Poss had added 77, with a range of drives and pulls from both players whilst keeping out the dangerous spin of the veteran Vala and scoring most of the runs from the other end, when ¬H¬ drove another straight drive the bowler getting a hand to it to deflect on to the stumps ,Poss out for a fine 39.
Moose entered the fray hoping to keep his average as highas possible and he batted sensibley with ¬H¬ as they added 40 for the 4th wicket as ¬H¬ fell for 76.
With Andy B.missing a straight one when trying to up the rate Rino and Moose added 16 quick runs ,Moose out caught for 26 this brought Jolly green giant Turner and it was he that finished the innings with an all run 5.Skying the ball to mid off he and Rino ran 2 ,the fielder threw the ball to the bowler who ignored the ball and Rino called again for the third.
Deep mid wicket trotted in and gave the oppottunity for a 4th as the run was being made the wicketkeeper kicked all his stumps down the feilder threw the ball at the keeper who was not looking as he was observing his handywork the ball heading to 3rd man and the 5th run made,a lesson to be learnt the game is not over until safely dead.We made 4 runs as we kept alert and fully switched on and and credit should got to both young players to make 5 runs when the ball went no further than 25 meters from the wickets at any time.Enderby innings finished on 190-6.
The bowling was less successful too many extras again meant no pressure could be excerted over any length of time.
Poss ¬H¬ and Hoss taking catches for JD Hoss and `Rick with Hoss bowling one to take the 4 wickets.
But again we scored more runs of the bat but extras killed us 32 wides 48 extras in total is just not acceptable and must be corrected ,if we do the stats show we are competative.
Its up to us to show we are better than the results show!!

18 Aug 2008 : Enderby lose away to countesthorpe
Match Report

Countesthorpe 2nds vs Enderby

A good team effort saturday but at the end of the day catches win matches. Unfortunately when you drop six catches you are going to struggle to win matches. Iceman the main culprit dropping the countesthorpe opener on nought when diving in front of first slip. The batsman going on to score a match winning 98 not out.

Enderby won the toss on a cloudy breezy day and decided to bat on a good looking wicket. The Enderby openers, Ryan Lane and Ben turner, got off to a bit of a flyer cashing in on some short and wide bowling. This set the tone for the whole game with the ball often being crashed to the boundary. Enderby batted really well throughout the innings. Ryan Lane reach his century with a six over square leg before being caught on the boundary for well played 114. A mark Johnstone cameo at the end included a monstrous six straight back over the bowler and into the houses. The only down side being Enderby could have made few more runs at the end. The lower order batsman throwing away there wickets going for the big shots. All said it was good batting display Enderby ending up 244-9.

It was tough going for the bowlers on what was a very good batting wicket and quick outfield. All the bowlers put in a fantastic effort throughout especially those coming up the hill into the breeze which was not easy. Only the fielding let us down and we know its an area we need to improve this weekend. Johno and rodders picking up the only wickets for Enderby. Countesthorpe reach their target off the last ball of the final over, finishing 246-2.
